Monsanto Found Guilty of Chemical Poisoning in France

A court decision in France this month has found Monsanto, American agribusiness responsible for genetically modified foods and the pesticides required to grow them, guilty of chemical poisoning. Farmer Paul Francois suffered neurological problems as a result of breathing in the pesticide Lasso. Effectively tying his condition to the pesticide, this is a huge win for healthy farming advocates - it’s a shame that a win has to come on the cuff of a farmer’s deteriorated health. Francois’ argument rested on the fact that the products were ineffectively labeled, preventing him from understanding the associated health risks of using Lasso on his crops. Perhaps this such case will be a wake up call for Monsanto and policy makers alike - encouraging the setting of stricter labeling requirements, if not manufacturing requirements, upfront.
